Town of Sylvan Lake receiving over $100,000 for waterfront redevelopment

The Town of Sylvan Lake is receiving more than 0,000 for a sustainable waterfront area redevelopment plan project through the Green Municipal Fund (GMF).
The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) and the Government of Canada are announcing more than $30 million for 50 initiatives across the country through two programs: the Municipal Asset Management Program (MAMP) and the Green Municipal Fund (GMF).
The Town of Sylvan Lake will develop a sustainable waterfront area redevelopment plan (SWARP) for its 169-hectare downtown waterfront, to adapt to a growing population and tourism industry (over one million visitors a year). The SWARP will improve upon the town’s outdated Town of Sylvan Lake Waterfront Area Redevelopment Plan (2006). It will identify actions to advance municipal sustainability objectives and create an area with diverse recreational amenities, sustainable commercial development, enhanced protection of sensitive natural areas, diversification of transportation options, heritage preservation of historically significant buildings, and affordable housing.
Some Quick Facts
The Municipal Asset Management Program is designed to help Canadian municipalities strengthen infrastructure investment decisions based on sound asset management practices. The program provides asset management training, funding and information sharing to enable municipalities to access the data needed to plan effectively. MAMP is a five-year, $50-million program, delivered by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and funded by the Government of Canada.
The Green Municipal FundTM (GMF) supports initiatives that advance innovative solutions to environmental challenges. These projects improve air, water and land quality, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and generate economic and social benefits to local communities. Through GMF, municipalities share lessons learned and successful new models for advancing sustainability in communities of all sizes in all regions across Canada. GMF is a $625 million program, delivered by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and funded by the Government of Canada.
