Carnival Cinemas = movie theatre and virtual reality complex open again!

Published

1 minute read

After 3 months of cinematic silence, digital projects will again come to life at Carnival Cinemas on Friday night.
“It has been a tough 3 months,” said theatre owner Bill Ramji. “This weekend, we come back to life!”
Movie goers can choose from Trolls World Tour, Sonic the Hedgehog, I Still Believe and the classic 1970s
film E.T.
Carnival Cinemas has kept prices steady at $5 and still offers the same snack bar and games arcade center in addition to Ctrl V, their virtual reality entertainment complex.

“We will still offer the same services as before, for meetings, birthday parties, and other rentals to serve our customers,” said Ramji. “We are ready to be central Red Deer’s entertainment hub.”
Over the last weeks, the Carnival parking lot has been home to food trucks, a move which was initiated last year.
“Having food trucks in our lot gives us good visibility,” added Ramji. “Last year we even had a small collectors market day for local comic book and card collectors.”
Ramji noted that movie goers can go online at https://carnivalcinemas.ca/ to view their current film slate and view online trailers.

Investment in high profile downtown property should boost downtown

Published on

From Cam Tomalty of RE/MAX Commercial Properties

POSTIVE NEWS FOR DOWNTOWN RED DEER

Downtown Office Building Sold

Some good news for Red Deer’s downtown core. The former Abacus Datagraphics Building, located at 4814 Ross Street, has sold to a local investor. The purchaser is excited about this new venture and will be making some upgrades to the building in hopes of attracting new tenants. The four-story building overlooks beautiful City Hall Park and is anchored by IDA Drugs. There are currently two new tenants undertaking tenant improvements with the hopes of occupancy in September. Sunreal Property Management Company has been retained to professionally manage the property and will be handling the day to day operations. The new owner plans to work attracting new tenants to the building and is offering Naming Rights to a qualified tenant.

“This is a positive sale for our downtown”, states Cam Tomalty of RE/MAX Commercial Properties. “We have seen many businesses close or relocate from the downtown core, so it is promising to see an investor willing to commit to the purchase, put money into renovations, and work at attracting new businesses to help revive the downtown core. In addition to the Abacus sale, over the past few months RE/MAX has been successful in selling the historic Prairie Office Products building and the Old Mill. Both locations are opening new businesses, which is more positive news for Downtown. As of last week, the former Roger’s Insurance building was sold as well, filling up a downtown office building that has been sitting vacant. We are hopeful this is a sign our economy is improving and is encouraging news for our City’s downtown”.

Downtown Business Spotlight: Lashing Out Luxury Lounge

Published on

We’re bringing back our Business Spotlight Project! To start it off this month we are shining our business spotlight on Lashing Out Luxury Lounge! Located along historic Alexander Way – 5116 48 St. in downtown Red Deer, this established studio boasts a very classy and modern atmosphere while offering a very welcoming and comfortable space. We were happy to catch up with Kaely Langlois, co-owner of Lashing Out Luxury Lounge to get the scoop on this successful downtown business.

What is your business?

We are Lashing Out Luxury Lounge!  We are a specialty lash and brow studio with some added aesthetic services.

When did your business open?

Lashing Out Luxury Lounge has been open for 8 years. Myself and my business partner worked here and were able to transition into ownership about two and a half years ago.

What makes your business unique?

We are the first specialty lash and brow studio to specialize in just lash extensions and brows in Red Deer.

We have very high industry-standard training for our staff, and we are also accredited to train. We take our training very seriously and it shows in the work we do, it sets us apart.

What are some products/services that you offer?

Our services include lash tinting, lash lifting, brow wax and tinting, henna brows, signature lash extensions, hybrid lash extensions, 2D volume extensions, 2 – 4 D volume extensions, 5 – 7 D volume extensions, mega volume extensions, derma-planing, facials, chemical peels, derma fillers, and Botox treatments.

Some products we carry in our building include bath products from Blackfalds, natural cleansers and detergents from Gull Lake, hair bows and baby items from Penhold, two clothing lines and scarves from Calgary, and tumblers from Penhold.

Why did you choose Downtown Red Deer as the location for your business?

We are centrally located and that works well because we have people that come from out of town, the north end and the south end. It’s nice to be right in the middle and its central for everyone. We remain downtown because we want to help in its continued growth and be a part of a thriving community.

What do you think makes Downtown vibrant?

I love how they are starting to bring local art into the downtown such as the big mural that is displayed on the building right beside us. I really like the market and the food trucks that happen in the summer.

We are also a part of the Adopt-a-Planner program and we feel it has really helped make the front of our business visually appealing. I think all the programs offered by the DBA are helping bring the downtown back to life. There is a little feel about it, and I think the DBA is really trying to help create positive change downtown.

I love Downtown Red Deer because… It’s the hub of Red Deer! Everything is central and you can find a little bit of everything here. There is good food, shopping and everything you need is here!

Be sure to stop into this unique little studio soon and see for yourself the talent and excellent customer service that make up the team at Lashing Out Luxury Lounge!
