Turkeys & Martinis Make for a Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!

Happy Thanksgiving weekend Alberta!

When I decided to write a Thanksgiving post, the first angle that came to mind was obviously something turkey-related. But then I thought that would be a little disingenuous as I’ve never cooked a turkey in my life. There are countless resources online if you need some turkey guidance though, and if I were making a turkey this weekend, I’d follow this Food Network recipe for World’s Simplest Thanksgiving Turkey.

Did you know October 4th was National Vodka Day? Me neither, but I saw it on social media- I’m not sure who decides these things, but as  martini-lover I’ll go with it. For a little background on ‘National Food/Drink Days, you can read this awesome article from the Globe & Mail– it’s a bit dated (being from 2010), but the sentiments are timeless.

Also timeless however is great vodka; and what’s a little more timely is buying local. Instead of the usual bottle of wine, why not gift your Thanksgiving host this weekend with a bottle of Alberta-made craft vodka? Or gin, or whisky? So in the spirit (get it?;) of belated National Vodka Day and buying local, here’s a list of distillers making the good stuff right here in Alberta…

Hansen Distillery

Rig Hand Distillery

Eau Claire Distillery

Wild Life Distillery

Stone Heart Distillery

Strathcona Spirits Distillery

Park Distillery

Highwood Distillers

Burwood Distillery

Keep in mind that while this may not be an exhaustive list, there are very exciting things happening in the distilling and brewing scenes in the province, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for local selections when stocking your bar.

And just to prove I’m a true martini-lover and not just saying so for the sake of this post, here are a few shots of my martinis-past… (Please try not to judge me for sometimes taking pictures of drinks, I don’t have any dogs yet.)

Have a safe and fun Thanksgiving weekend!

Canada’s first ‘Passivhaus’ dealership!

Published

The walls are going up for our new Subaru location here in Red Deer! We aren’t moving far but we are certainly moving up with Canada’s very first ‘Passivhaus‘ (Passive House) approach to a building. This style of architecture has a standard for having the most energy efficient buildings that diminish the ecological footprint, and allows for lower energy use.

Scott Subaru is working closely with SIA, an automotive manufacturer that has achieved zero landfill status. Using an already positioned building, SIA has strategically dismantled it piece by piece to save all parts for reuse and donation; such as, furniture was given to Habitat for Humanity, wires and cables salvaged for donation, and windows saved for use in the new build. It will be the most energy efficient dealership in Canada that will require very little energy use for heating and cooling, as it is designed to stay cooler in summer and hold heat in winter. With the use of solar panels, rainwater, and landscaping that is engineered to keep the building in pristine condition, the new Scott Subaru will be on its way to leading the industries standard in environmental sustainability.

We are so excited that this project is starting to show some bones and can’t wait to show you more progress as the weeks and months go by!

IT’S ARRIVED!

We’re very pleased to announce the first of its kind in Red Deer, a sophisticated Service Drop-Off/Pick-up kiosk for AFTER HOURS. We are currently installing and testing it out and we will be opening it up to our customers very soon! We are going to be the first dealership group in the world to showcase this revolutionary technology. It will be a game-change in the automotive service industry. This amazing technology makes servicing your vehicle quicker and easier than ever before, and picking up your vehicle will no longer be restricted to dealership hours.

When you arrive at our kiosk, you will be prompted to check in using your email address, (you can even book an appointment right there on the kiosk). After confirming the services your vehicle will receive, you will be prompted to drop your keys in one of our twelve secure lock-boxes. That’s it! In 3 minutes or less, you’re all done!

When the work on your vehicle is completed, you’ll receive an SMS text and/or email notification, and within minutes, (with the built-in payment integration), you’ll be able to pay your bill and pick up your vehicle. Servicing your vehicle has never been easier!

Our Express Service Drop-off/Pick-up Kiosk is the first of its kind in Red Deer, and it’s going to re-shape the way you interact with our service department.
