If Red Deer was a restaurant, this would be the news.

If Red Deer was a restaurant, this would be the news:
Red Deer Roadhouse is expanding again, adding more wings, bringing in more tables as their customer base continues to decline. Management made this decision in hopes of the return of the oilfield clan. The menu will stay the same, we will just spread out the customers, sitting fewer to a table. Busboys will have to walk farther to keep the tables clear, but management is hopeful the customers will come.
South of the Roadhouse is the Penhold Pancake House, and they are expanding due to an expanded customer base. This is due to the addition to their menu of the much-desired Multi-plex Muffins.
North of the Roadhouse is the Blackfalds Bakery, the fastest growing eatery around. They are expanding due in part to the Abbey Pie added to the menu.
Across the road, straight west the Sylvan Lake Saladbar is expanding due to upgrading of their entertainment, even with their steep parking fees.
What am I getting at? Red Deer is building new neighbourhoods while our population is declining. 25 older neighbourhoods are losing residents to the new neighbourhoods and to outlying communities like Blackfalds, Penhold and Sylvan Lake.
We appear to have a superiority complex when it comes to planning our city. Our failures are the fault of the oilfield, the economy, the province or fate but is never our fault. While other communities grow and we decline, it is because of cheaper housing, and lower taxes in smaller communities. Ignoring the facts that Lethbridge, Edmonton and Calgary also grew while Red Deer declined.
This is probably the main reason I cannot support the status quo.
