Festival of Trees in need of volunteers!

Hundreds of volunteers make annual event possible
The 29th annual Festival of Trees in Red Deer is set to open on Friday, November 25, and organizers say volunteers are still needed from November 19 to 27.
The Red Deer Regional Health Foundation organizes the festival each year. Hundreds of volunteers are recruited to help during the festival and the days of setup before the event.
Volunteers can sign up online at reddeerfestivaloftrees.ca/volunteer, or they can call or text the volunteer hotline at 587-876-8699.
Each year in November, Festival of Trees is one of the foundation’s largest fundraisers. Proceeds from Festival of Trees support a specific project at Red Deer Hospital. This year’s event supports the purchase of equipment for the Intensive Care and Coronary Care units at the hospital.

Red Deer Mayor Shares Message on Mentoring

In an effort to help Youth HQ and Big Brothers Big Sisters recruit more mentors for the kids on their waitlist, Red Deer Mayor Ken Johnston took a moment to record a video and speak on the matter:
There are currently over 70 kids in Red Deer on a waiting list, hoping for a mentor.
Anyone looking to become a mentor can visit the Youth HQ website, or reach out directly to Volunteer Resources Coordinator, Janessa McCormack via email at [email protected]
Big Brothers Big Sisters has been active for over 100 years. The organization came to the Red Deer & District region in 1976 and has been at work in this community ever since. Several programs and services are available to young persons and their families, including in-school mentoring.
