    *Correction* Alberta RCMP member faces criminal charges

    Constable Hagen appeared in a North Vancouver court on Mar. 6, 2019 and was charged with two counts of assault as opposed to the originally released “two counts of assault causing bodily harm”.

    Alberta RCMP regret the errors.

    Alberta RCMP member faces criminal charges

    Edmonton – On February 28, 2019, RCMP Constable Vernon Hagen, a member of the Alberta RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime unit, was charged with the following: 

    • Two counts of Assault Causing Bodily Harm
    • One count of Obstruct Peace Officer 

    The charges are the result of an incident that occurred in Whistler, B.C. on Jan. 28, 2019 while the member was off duty.

    Cst. Hagen has been reassigned and he will not resume operational duties until the criminal charges against him are resolved.

    Cst. Hagen made his first court appearance in Whistler, B.C. on Mar. 6, 2019.

    No other information will be provided at this time as this matter is before the courts.

    Two Hills RCMP arrest two, recover $200,000 worth of stolen property

    Two Hills County, Alta. –  “We will continue to collaborate with specialized units to combat property crime,” says Sergeant Robert Daisley, Two Hills RCMP Detachment Commander. “Approximately $200,000 worth of stolen property was recovered and we are returning these items to their rightful owners.” 

    Over the past year, Two Hills RCMP have been actively investigating reported chop shops operating in the Two Hills County area. On April 23, 2019 RCMP conducted a traffic stop with a female on a scooter driving on Highway 45. During the traffic stop, the scooter was found to be stolen and further investigation lead police to a property in the area. 

    On April 25, 2019, Two Hills RCMP along with members of the Vegreville RCMP, RCMP Auto Theft Unit, St. Paul Traffic, and the Eastern Alberta Rural Crime Reduction Unit (EADRCRU) dismantled a rural ‘Chop Shop’ in Two Hills County. Search warrants were executed at three rural properties north of Two Hills. Several stolen trucks, utility trailers, ATVs, travel trailers, generators, and other tools were recovered. 

    Craig Allen Wince (45) of Two Hills was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

    ·       Possession of property obtained by crime less than $5000 (x4)

    ·       Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 (x8) 

    He was released after a judicial hearing and is set to appear in Vegreville Provincial Court on June 17, 2019. 

    Jamie Bruhm (33) of Vegreville was charged with possession of property obtained by crime less than $5000. She was released and is set to appear in Vegreville Provincial Court on June 10, 2019.  

    The stolen property was from several areas including: Camrose, Lloydminster, Lavoy, Smoky Lake, Sedgewick and Sherwood Park.

    Update: New charges laid in connection to extensive damages to Edson Provincial building

  • An additional Criminal Code charge has been laid against a male who allegedly drove his truck through the Edson Provincial building on May 11, 2019.

    Kelvin Brent Zawadiuk (35) of Edson faces an additional charge of public incitement of hatred. He remains remanded into custody and is due to appear in Edson Provincial Court on May 21, 2019.
    At approximately 9:30 am on May 11, 2019, Edson RCMP received a complaint of extensive damage to the Provincial Building and Provincial Court House in Edson, Alberta. Investigation revealed that a lone male stole a vehicle from the ATCO Electric compound next to the Provincial Building, drove through the fence, through the east entrance to the Provincial building, through the building and exited the west side of the building. Anti-Semitic messaging was written throughout the building.

    Zawadiuk has also been charged with:

    –      Break & enter

    –      Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

    –      Theft of truck

    –      Mischief under $5000 (x2)

    –      Fail to comply with probation order (x2)
