The Sun Sets on the Red Deer Market

On the Thanksgiving weekend, the Red Deer Market bid farewell to its part-time home by the Memorial Centre, Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School and Ecole Camille J. Lerouge. The Market will return to its roots by the arena (now the Servus Arena) and the curling rink (now the Pidherney Centre) on the May Long Weekend of 2019.
Dennis Moffat started the Red Deer Farmers’ Market (now the Red Deer Market) almost half a century ago – 48 years to be precise. With the assistance of son, Patrick, and daughter, Fiona, Dennis Moffat brought local produce and wares (and even some not-so-local) for the enjoyment and benefit of Central Albertans.
Dennis spoke highly of the Markets’ neighbours, the homeowners of Waskasoo. He said how they had embraced the Market and supported it, never complaining about too much traffic or the noise or congestion. He’ll miss them but he’s happy to be returning to where it all began.
