Janice Wing – 2017 Women of Excellence Nominee

Published

1 minute read

As the 2017 Women of Excellence Awards approach, nominee Janice Wing knows exactly what the people at the Red Deer & District Community Foundation are going through.  Wing is a former Executive Director of the Foundation.  In fact it was under her leadership that the Women of Excellence Awards came into being 10 years ago.  A decade later, Janice Wing is on the senior administration team at Red Deer College.  An institution on the verge of change as RDC awaits word from the province on a request to take on University Status.  It seems where ever Wing goes, things happen.  Perhaps that’s why Janice Wing is a nominee in the “Business and the Professions” category at the 2017 Women of Excellence Awards.  Meet Janice Wing…

After 15 years as a TV reporter with Global and CBC and as news director of RDTV in Red Deer, Duane set out on his own 2008 as a visual storyteller. During this period, he became fascinated with a burgeoning online world and how it could better serve local communities. This fascination led to Todayville, launched in 2016.

Published on

This week’s Business Spotlight shines on Petrichor Massage Therapy! This unique business is located within Paris Aesthetic in the Bunn Building (#2-4820 Gaetz ave, Red Deer)

What is your business?

Registered Massage Therapy.

When did your business open?

February 15th, 2021 (brand new, baby!)

What makes your business unique?

I don’t have different “types” of massage that you must choose between for your treatment (relaxation, Swedish, therapeutic, deep tissue, etc), instead I only book by the time slot. This is means every massage session is perfectly tailored to your needs and goals! My favorite thing to do is scalp and neck massage, you’ve got to get on my table and experience it!

What are some products/services that you offer?

60/90/120 minute massage therapy services

Why did you choose Downtown Red Deer?

You can’t beat the convenience of the location.

What do you think makes Downtown vibrant?

All of the different kinds of businesses all smashed together in such a small location! I also love all the programs centered around the downtown location, there’s a definite sense of community.

I love Downtown Red Deer because…

It’s got an undeniable “cool” vibe, it feels so fresh to be involved with a part of my community that’s so vibrant and hip.

RDLIP Would Like to Know Your Thoughts on Racism

Understanding Experiences of and Responses To Racism in Red Deer

Red Deer Local Immigration Partnership (RDLIP) would like to know your thoughts on racism in our community as they launch a survey to aid in the Racial Harmony Campaign, which is a social marketing campaign aimed to change perceptions, attitudes and behaviours on Black, Indigenous and people of colour (BIPOC).

The survey is conducted to gather perceptions on people of colour and the state of race relations in our community. The findings from the survey will inform strategies in the implementation of the campaign. “It is important for us to understand the extent of racism in Red Deer”, said Lori Jack, Co-Chair of the Central Planning Council, RDLIP. “It’s the first step in building harmony among all of us”, added Jack.

“We would like to ask the community to help us by answering the survey”, says Ezgi Sarioglu, Program Manager, RDLIP. “This survey will provide valuable insight on the experiences of our community members who may be struggling due to racism”, added Sarioglu. The survey will take 10-15 minutes to complete. Three $100.00 Visa gift cards are available for participants who would like their name into a draw. The survey can be found on this link:

The RDLIP is a community-based partnership aiming to create a community which openly receives newcomers (immigrants and refugees); embraces cultural diversity; strives to understand the needs of newcomers to provide access to a full range of services and participation in all aspects of society; and works to strengthen the understanding of two-way responsibility & benefit for newcomers and the broader community.
