  • The Alberta Sport Development Centre – Central (ASDC-C) is pleased to announce that the ASDC-Central Athlete of the Month for February 2019 is Isaac Bahler.  Isaac Bahler is a 14 year old Grade 9 French Immersion student at Lindsay Thurber High School in Red Deer and a competitive swimmer.

As a swimmer Isaac has had many accomplishments, most recently at the 2018 Alberta Summer Games in Grande Prairie where he won 3 gold, 2 bronze and a silver medal. Isaac has had a great year in the pool thus far with Red Deer Catalina Swim Club, achieving many Alberta Championship qualifying times, and most recently a Western Canadian Championship qualifying time.  He is currently gearing up for Alberta Short Course Championships in March 2019 and the Western Championships in April 2019.

Outside of his swimming exploits, Isaac has many other interests.  Isaac is a Martin Godfrey writing award winner, and recently was named a County of Red Deer writing award recipient.  Isaac is a lover of music and is the drummer for his rock band – The Bland Band.  Isaac’s believes hard work and determination will allow him to continue improving in all parts of life as he continues through the rest of high school.

With Isaacs strong work ethic, his undeniable athletic abilities and his training experiences with ASDC-Central, he will surely continue to grow, develop and succeed in his swimming career!

ASDC-Central thanks Tom Bast Sports for celebrating the ASDC-Central Athlete of the Month recipients by the provision of commemorative apparel for each recipient.

  • Hi my friends.  As most of you know I’m the Chair of the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Center and we’ve been running a Home Lottery Campaign.

We’ve had to extend the draw because we have to sell quite a few more tickets.  The support from the community has been great but we have to do more.

I’m looking for 100 people to volunteer this coming Thursday night to go door to door and sell tickets.  If you or possibly some of your staff or co workers would be able to help out, that would be awesome.

Anyone interested can email me at Terry@abbeyplatinum.ca or text me at 403-896 3675

We are going to meet at the Sheraton Hotel at 5:30 pm on Thursday March 21 in the Palermo Room to get credentials, information and ticket forms.

More information when I get a list of people. There will be some prizes for most sold etc.

I really appreciate the help for this great cause. We have looked after over 450 children in just over a year in Central Alberta. https://cacaclottery.ca

    From Todayville

Since it opened 16 months ago, the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre has served over 440 children from more than 50 different communities.  The Child Advocacy Centre is raising funds to build a facility specifically for their purpose of bringing healing to the lives of children who have been abused.  Support from all these communities will be critical.

The Advocacy Centre “must” sell more tickets!  If you’ve already made your purchase you can still help.  Make sure your friends and loved ones know about this lottery.  Please do your best to spread the news to your contacts in Edmonton and Calgary and around the province.  So many people would love a chance to own a new home for just $35 dollars.

  • It’s called “Ignite Your Spark” wellness day and it’s all about promoting healthy lifestyles and mental health.

From Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools

Students and staff at École Secondaire Notre Dame High School participated in an “Ignite Your Spark” wellness day.  Sparks—when illuminated and nurtured—give young people joy, energy, and direction.  Sparks have the power to change a young person’s life from one of “surviving” to “thriving.”
“Our hope was to expose our school population to activities and ideas that will spark their interest to promote healthy lifestyles, coping strategies and overall positive mental health,” said Teacher Christy Magill at École Secondaire Notre Dame High School.
The day began with Amped2Play, the keynote speaker and then students divided into different sessions based on Grade from 10:00 a.m. – 2:20 p.m.
“Ignite Your Spark is a great event because it is an opportunity for students to experience various activities where they can find new passions and joy,” said Health Promotion Facilitator, Rania Page from Alberta Health Services.
