Two Children Allegedly Sexually Assaulted by Edmonton Man

An Edmonton man has been arrested by ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit for allegedly sexually assaulting two children.

Gerald Kenneth Steed was arrested on May 18, 2018. The 50-year-old man allegedly sexually assaulted two young children that were known to the accused in two separate instances. Steed can be described as a family friend of the victims and was frequently used to babysit.

ICE is currently exploring the possibility of additional victims in Edmonton. Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact local police or cybertip.ca.

Steed’s arrest came following a collaborative investigation between the ICE unit, the Edmonton Police Service, and the Zebra Centre for Child Protection. Information about Steed’s alleged offences was first brought forward to police in early May.

The alleged offences date back well over a year and the victims are believed to have been sexually assaulted on a number of occasions.

Steed remains in custody and has been charged with 2 counts each of Sexual Assault, Sexual Interference, Sexual Exploitation, Making Child pornography and 1 count of Possession of Child pornography. 

Steed’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 12, 2018.

Lac La Biche RCMP investigate attempted child luring

Lac La Biche, Alta. – Lac La Biche RCMP are investigating a report of attempted child luring that occurred at approximately 8:00 p.m., on June 18, 2019 near 102 Avenue in Plamondon, Alberta. 

Lac La Biche RCMP were notified minutes after the incident. A suspicious male wearing all black clothing, driving in a vehicle pulled over and asked a young boy if he wanted a chocolate bar. The boy ran from the suspect vehicle and the male left the area. 

The suspect vehicle is described as a newer black SUV or a black pickup truck with a canopy. No further description of the suspect male is available. 

Police commend the boy for refusing to approach the vehicle and for advising adults, and remind parents and caregivers of the importance of educating children about safety.

Update: RCMP charge 3 youth with weapon possession after incident at Red Deer Middle School

Red Deer RCMP respond to threat at Eastview Middle School – Update Charges laid

Following an investigation into a threat at Eastview Middle School, RCMP have now laid charges against three youth.

On June 11, two of three suspects were apprehended by the RCMP and a third suspect was not immediately located.  On June 12 in the evening, the third youth involved cooperated with RCMP by turning himself in.

All three youths, aged 15, 16, 17, are facing charges of possession of a weapon and carrying a concealed weapon under the criminal code, as well as disturb or interrupt proceedings of a school under the School Act.  The three are scheduled to appear in youth court on June 27, 2019 in Red Deer Provincial Court. 

No further information will be made available in relation to this incident.

ORIGINAL MEDIA RELEASE FROM RCMP: Red Deer RCMP respond to threat at Eastview Middle School

On June 11, 2019, at approximately 3:22 p.m. Red Deer RCMP responded to a call at Eastview Middle School after three male youth entered the school with a possible firearm.  

Eastview Middle School, along with surrounding schools, were put into lockdown as a result. 

There were no injuries as a result of this incident.   

RCMP cleared the building and the suspects fled. Two of the three suspects have been apprehended and charged with firearms related offences. RCMP continue to search for the remaining suspect. 

A replica firearm was later located. 

RCMP continue to investigate this incident and are asking for the public’s assistance.
