Off To The Rink!
It’s finally time for Central Albertans to grab their skates and head to the outdoor rink.
City officials say crews have been working hard to ensure the opening this weekend of the outdoor skating rinks on Friday, December 16th.
Once community shelter rinks are set to go, nets will be put out and lights will be turned on.
There are a few rinks around the city that remain closed as skating surfaces are not in good conditions due to ice not being thick enough. Those rinks include Bower Ponds, Mountview, Oriole Park and Grandview.
With weather permitting, these remaining rinks will open by the end of next week. Once natural rinks are ready and safe to use, the thin ice signs will be removed.
City officials would like to remind everyone that the use of helmets is recommended at all times and that hockey pucks and sticks are not permitted at Bower Ponds or the Recreation Centre Oval.
If you require more information about skating rinks, call 403-342-8159 or visit www.reddeer.ca/rpc.
