“Have It All” at Reading College
“Have It All” at Reading College
“May you have auspiciousness and causes of success,
May you have the confidence to always do your best.”
The first two lines of the Jason Mraz tune “Have It All” say a great deal about this year’s Reading College. In fact, it’s their theme song.
60 Grade 2 students from many of Red Deer Public School District’s schools are spending the entire month of July at Red Deer College. Why? Because they are close to being at the appropriate reading level . . . but not quite.
In a program that’s been developed over the last six years, not only do these kids have the best summer ever, they move from learning to read to reading to learn. A Program Coordinator and three experienced teachers combine forces with six recent graduates from the Middle Years program at Red Deer College. This melding of experience and youthful enthusiasm is amazing.
Prairie Bus Lines picks the kids up at/near their homes every morning in July. Breakfast and lunch are included in this free-to-the-kids program. Mornings are spent on reading and writing and word skills while afternoons involve learning and life activities around the College.
It’s a truly amazing program¬–and a life changer. For more see http://www.rdpsd.ab.ca/Foundation-Reading%20College.php
Similar programs are offered in Camrose and Grande Prairie.
