Strike Up The Band! Updated With Comments From School Division

The generosity of local donors has hit the right note with Red Deer music students. Officials with Red Deer Public Schools are celebrating the results of their recent “Big Musical Instrument Drive”. District spokesman Bruce Buruma says thanks to support from the community, their program will now be able to provide musical instruments for students who otherwise would not get the advantages of musical education.

The “Big Musical Instrument Drive” netted 80 instruments worth an estimated $30,000.00!

Officials say this project supports the EQUITY priority for the Foundation for Red Deer Public Schools. These instruments will go into the hands of students whose family cannot provide children with musical instruments. By collecting quality used instruments, the opportunity to participate in band now becomes a reality.

These instruments will now be selected for music programs across the district.
