Help Red Deer be named ‘Canada’s Most Active Community’!
Red Deer will be taking part in the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge from May 31st to June 16 in an effort to get people moving a perhaps even be named ‘Canada’s Most Active Community’!
Everyone in Red Deer is encouraged to participate because “Everything gets better when you get active”.
There are many Mental health benefits that happen when you get active including improvements in ability to focus and learn, self- esteem, happiness, mood, sleep, energy and ability to handle daily stress. There are also many physical benefits including stronger muscles and bones, improvement in heart health, enhanced balance, posture and healthy body weight. Getting active also has many social benefits as you can meet new friends and spend quality time with family.
The Community Better Challenge is an annual event that aims to get neighbourhoods across the country moving together; AND communities have a chance to win $150,000 to go toward physical activity improvements if it’s crowned Canada’s Most Active Community.
At the conclusion of the challenge, one community will earn the top prize and title of being Canada’s most active. In addition to the national winner, there will also be finalists recognized from all regions of Canada who will be awarded $20,000.
You can also win prizes such as Sport Check gift cards individually through the ParticipACTION app. The app can be used to track your activity and win prizes all year long. Find it at the Apple App Store or Google Play.
Track active minutes through the app to be automatically counted toward your community score. The more you track, the greater chance your community has of winning.

1. For Adults to track individual activity, download the new ParticipACTION app. Keep in mind the app is for ages 17 and up.
2. To track for your family and children you must go online to www.participaction.com.It is simple but you have to go online to track for kids.
3. Track and contribute to total active minutes from May 31st to June 16th.
