Canada Day celebrations in Clark’s Harbour

Canada Day is right around the corner, and people across the country, as well as quite a few beyond it, are wondering where they can celebrate. The good news is that there are plenty of options for the whole family, especially along the coast! Some of our favorite celebrations take place in Clark’s
Harbour. Let’s take a look at what to expect leading up to July 1.

Children’s art programs and scavenger hunt (June 24-25)

The Canada Day festivities in Clark’s Harbour begin on June 24 with several art programs designed for children available at Clark’s Harbour Library. These art programs lead into the 25 th , with the addition of a scavenger hunt on the 25 th capping off the two-day event. Note that while the programs were created with children in mind, the whole family can enjoy the occasion. You can even catch lunch between programs at one of the delicious eateries surrounding the library!

Walking tour (June 26)

A guided walking tour takes place on June 26. It begins at 6:30pm at Town Hall and is completely free. Participants will wander along the boardwalk while taking in oceanside sights such as local historical properties, landmarks, and fleets of colorful fishing boats in the local wharf. We don’t have
an official estimate of the length of the walking tour, but you can expect to spend at least an hour or so walking around the area.

Festivities such as the guided tour and many others can best be viewed and planned online to ensure that this great experience is fully taken advantage of. Ghost stories (June 27)

Ready for something a bit more exciting? Vernon Oickle, renowned Nova Scotia author, will get the adrenaline pumping with some spooky tales on June 27. The show, Ghost Stories at the Seaside Heritage Centre, begins at 7pm and covers a wide array of creepy stories for the whole family. Make sure to sit at the back so that you have an easy out if you plan on bringing children! Some of the tales are scarier than others, so it’s good to have a swift exit route should the little ones become upset.

Bike runs and live music (June 28)

Two bike runs take place on June 28. The first, 15K Bike the Loop, starts at 9am. The second, Bike the Harbour, starts at 10am. The latter uses the town bike lanes, so keep an eye out if you’re traveling through the area! Later that evening, visit the Salt Banker Cafe to catch Alexandra Rodgerson, a
Yarmouth County songwriter/singer and karaoke host, take the stage. The concert runs from 7pm to 9pm.

Go-carts (June 29)

Of all of the annual Canada Day festivities in Clark’s Harbour, go-carts are easily one of the most popular. This year’s event takes place on June 29. Participants will race along Walter Street from 6:30pm and beyond, so travel carefully if you’ll be in the area! Don’t hesitate to stop by and give it a
try, especially if you’ve never enjoyed go-carting in the past.

Trivia night (June 30)

Looking for a less strenuous way to celebrate Canada Day? Trivia night with Eddie and Cara takes place at the Clark’s Harbour Elementary School from 7pm on June 30. This is an ideal activity for families searching for a fun but low-key way to celebrate the holiday this year.

All-day festivities (July 1)

No Canada Day in Clark’s Harbour would be complete without a full day of festivities on the holiday itself, July 1. The fun kicks off with a 5K supporting the Let Your Light Shine – Jevon Link Society. The FA Brannen Memorial Ball Park car show, hosted by West Head Wesleyan Church, starts at 9am, and the children’s parade takes place on the Clark’s Harbour Elementary School bus loop at 9:30am. A larger street parade takes place at 10:30am.

The area around Town Hall will host more than 30 food trucks and vendors ready to make the day one to remember. This includes a flag-raising, bouncy castle, lobster chowder, hula hoop, face painting and a foam party, in addition to performances from the MacKenzie School of Dance, kung fu
with Jacob Almero, and entertainment by Matt Bone and Autumn Dedrick.
