Barrier Busting Playground Unique in Alberta

It just might the largest playground of it’s kind in Alberta.. Central Alberta’s largest Barrier Free Playground has opened at Mattie McCullough Elementary School in South East Red Deer. The equipment is spread out over a 14,000 square foot area… over half of which is accessible to children… or adults… with mobility issues.
The half million dollar project was spearheaded by students, staff, and families at Mattie McCullough Elementary School.. with the help of Red Deer Rotary Clubs. Sunshine Rotary Club has taken a leading role in fundraising. There’s also been a ton of help from the City of Red Deer, the Province of Alberta, the Rick Hansen Foundation, and the Rett Society.
This is just stage one of a two stage build. By next year there will be a number of new attractions including a climbing net, a barrier free zip line, and the only wheelchair accessible merry go round of it’s kind in North America!
