Lawrence Lee Reflects on First Term as City Councillor
Advance Voting Begins Tomorrow
As I reflect on my first term as a Red Deer City Councillor I can’t help but feel proud for the opportunity to have been able to perform my civic duty and serve this city that I love. Red Deer is an incredible place made so by the people that call this home. We can talk about my strong business background being fortunate to be able to have been raised here in an entrepreneurial family or the senior management positions that I have held in International Corporations – Jim Pattison / Home Depot / or Eye Recommend. But what I would like to use this time for is to highlight my time in public service.
It all began in Annie L Gatez school where I was able to work with principals Jock Mackenzie and Wendy Cawson as the parent council chair, it was there that I discovered that I could use my educational and business background to enrich the lives of others and to advocate for students to enhance their potential in becoming productive members of our communities. This is why working alongside Joel Ward, from School Board Chair to now, making this vision of a Poly Technic University become a reality is the right thing to do for our students.
Now, as a current City Councillor not only using my drive and passion to continue moving Red Deer forward. I continue to use my experience and training to continue to build strong relationships, to ensure productive discussion, and to listen to my constituents when they have thoughts or issues. Having served on numerous provincial Boards I now have been selected by my peers all over Alberta to serve the local interests of our community at the national level as a Board member of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
So, let’s talk about crime, roads, transit, economic development, the environment, the opioid crisis, education or health care. No matter what the issue or concern my commitment is to consider your perspective to learn about the issues and make decisions in the best interest of Red Deer as a whole. Thank you for the opportunity to give back to a community that has given so much to my family and me for our entire lives.
