Lucky’s Stone House on Sylvan Lake’s 46th Street

As we look forward to some amazing weather, our thoughts quickly turn to the Lake.
The Stone House on 46th Street was built in 1913 by Mr. Auguste (Lucky) Loquet. He and his sister Selena immigrated from their farm in St. Omer, near Dunkerque, France. He originally homesteaded near Third Point. He was an avid hunter and trapper and worked in logging camps. He and his sister tried to live off the wild animals and birds of the area and practiced a fair amount of taxidermy. His sister kept house for him as Auguste never married. He was a wonderful story teller and lived to be in his 90’s. After his sister died he lived with the Balfontaine (Bellfontaine) family.
As stated in the Sylvan Lake News, January 5th, this historic building has since been occupied as a residence, café, retail outlet, art gallery, framing store and a day spa. As of January, 2017, it will reopen as “Crafted for the Home”, owned by Beth Meier, and will feature creations from a number of local artists and has the potential to host two full floors of artistic exhibition.
