Quick Hit:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Saturday he will meet with President Donald Trump in Washington on Monday, following Trump’s summit with Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

Key Details:

  • Zelensky said he spoke with Trump for over 90 minutes Saturday, first one-on-one and then with European leaders on the line, thanking Trump for inviting him to the White House. He said the two will “discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war.”
  • Trump confirmed the Monday meeting, noting that if discussions with Zelensky are productive, he would then consider another round of talks with Putin. “There’s no deal until there’s a deal,” Trump told reporters in Alaska.
  • European leaders released a joint statement after speaking with Trump, saying Ukraine “must have ironclad security guarantees” and welcoming U.S. readiness to provide them.

Diving Deeper:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit Washington on Monday for direct talks with President Donald Trump, marking his first U.S. trip since a tense Oval Office meeting in February. Zelensky’s announcement came hours after Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin concluded a high-profile summit in Alaska on the war that has now dragged on for more than three years.

Trump, who said the talks with Putin “went very well,” insisted that a lasting peace agreement—not a temporary truce—was the only way to end the fighting. That stance aligns closely with Moscow’s view, as Putin has rejected calls for short-term ceasefires while continuing military offensives across Ukraine. “Many, many points we agreed on, most of them,” Trump told reporters after the meeting, though he acknowledged “a couple of big ones that we haven’t quite got there.”

Zelensky, excluded from the Alaska talks, stressed the need for Europe to remain involved. “It is important that Europeans are involved at every stage to ensure reliable security guarantees together with America,” he said, adding that he and Trump discussed U.S. support for stronger security arrangements. European leaders echoed those concerns in a joint statement, affirming that “international borders must not be changed by force” and that any final deal must leave territorial decisions to Ukraine.

While Trump left the door open to another round of negotiations with Putin, he hinted that Zelensky now carries responsibility to “get it done.” He also said Europe would need to play a role in whatever comes next. That was reinforced by French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and others, who all signaled readiness to work toward a trilateral summit with U.S. support.

For now, Zelensky will head to Washington on Monday, a meeting that could define the next phase of Trump’s peace push. If progress is made, Trump has suggested he could then sit down with both Putin and Zelensky at the same table. Until then, as the president made clear: “There’s no deal until there’s a deal.”

Trump greets Putin under thunder of a B-2 bomber

Quick Hit:

President Donald Trump welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin to Alaska on Friday with a display of American air power — a B-2 stealth bomber and four F-35 fighter jets roaring overhead. The greeting came as the two leaders arrived at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson for a high-stakes summit.

Key Details:

  • Trump and Putin walked a red carpet flanked by F-22 fighter jets as the B-2 bomber and four F-35s passed overhead. The F-35s had flown in from Eielson Air Force Base, while the F-22s are based at Elmendorf.
  • Two B-2 bombers had been positioned at the base ahead of the meeting, according to officials. The aircraft type was also used during June’s Operation Midnight Hammer to strike Iran’s nuclear sites.
  • Trump has repeatedly praised the B-2, calling it “an amazing machine” and announcing “new and enhanced” models earlier this year. The bomber is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear weapons and flying around the world without refueling.

Diving Deeper:

President Donald Trump set the tone for Friday’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin by greeting him on the tarmac at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage under the shadow of American air dominance. As the two leaders stepped off their respective aircraft, a red carpet stretched before them, lined with F-22 fighter jets on either side. Above, a B-2 Spirit stealth bomber and four F-35 Lightning II jets thundered overhead in a precision flyover.

According to two U.S. officials, two B-2 bombers had been flown into the base ahead of the meeting, while the F-35s made the trip from nearby Eielson Air Force Base. The F-22s are part of Elmendorf’s own fleet. It was not immediately clear whether the flyover was personally ordered by Trump as a show of strength before his talks with Putin, but the choice of aircraft was notable.

The B-2 bomber — a symbol of U.S. global reach and nuclear capability — was the same type deployed in June’s Operation Midnight Hammer. In that mission, seven B-2s flew 36 hours nonstop from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri to Iran, delivering more than a dozen bunker-buster bombs against suspected nuclear facilities. Trump later said those sites were “obliterated,” though U.S. military officials noted that full damage assessments were still underway.

In recent weeks, Trump has taken every opportunity to praise the aircraft and its crews, at one point holding up a small model for reporters and calling it “an amazing machine.”

The Anchorage greeting offered a stark visual backdrop for the day’s diplomatic agenda — one that underscored the military might of the United States as the two nuclear powers prepared to talk face-to-face.

Trump Says Putin, Zelenskyy To Meet Following Alaska Summit

From the Daily Caller News Foundation

By Hailey Gomez

President Donald Trump said Friday on Fox News’ “Hannity” that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet.

Trump and Putin met in Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday to discuss a potential end to the Ukraine-Russia conflict; however, no deal has been confirmed. In an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, the president said that a follow-up meeting will be scheduled between the two foreign leaders, floating the idea that he might also attend.

“We were together almost three hours, and it was very extensive, and we agreed on a lot of points. I mean, a lot of points were agreed on, but there’s not that much, as you know, one or two pretty significant items. But I think they can be reached,” Trump said. “Now it’s really up to President Zelenskyy to get it done. And I would also say the European nations. They have to get involved a little bit, but it’s up to President Zelenskyy.”

“And if they’d like, I’ll be at that next meeting. They’re going to set up a meeting now between President Zelenskyy and President Putin. And, myself, I guess, you know, I didn’t even, I didn’t ask about it. Not that I want to be there, but I want to make sure it gets done.”
