Ringette Athlete Keely Brown Inducted into Alberta Sports Hall of Fame

Keely Brown’s contribution to Ringette in Canada goes beyond the ice, her passion for the game even leading her to make improvements to the equipment.
Keely moved to Alberta in 2003 where she joined the Edmonton WAM! of the National Ringette League. As a goaltender, Keely competed in 19 Canadian Ringette Championships, winning gold 9 times and silver 8 times. For 13 consecutive years, Keely was the goaltender for Team Canada, becoming the longest serving goalie in Ringette Canada’s National Team history.
As a national team member, Keely won 4 silver medals, and gold in 2002. Keely was named the MVP for the final game three times, and the top goalie forthe tournament in 2002 and 2007. Keely’s skill, finesse, patience, athletic ability, and grit set the standard for those involved in ringette. Keely’s athletic prowess extended beyond ringette. She was a goalie for the Edmonton Chimos of the Western Women’s Hockey League for 8 seasons, and played for Team Canada at the World Inline Hockey Championships from 2002 to 2011. Keely led Canada to 9 medals in 10 years, including 3 gold.
Keely was also the driving force behind an improved goaltender’s glove. Working with manufacturer NAMI, Keely’s design was more suited for ringette than previous styles, allowing the goalie to make the save, then pick up and toss the ring with an eye for accuracy and distance. The equipment is now known as the “Keely”.
Keely continues to give back to the sport. She founded and co-owns a ringette goalie instruction company and has also written two books on Ringette Goalie Instruction.
