World Rodeo Champion Blaine Pederson’s Rise to the top

Biography

Blaine Pederson started his rodeo career at a very young age. In 1982, Blaine won the Rookie of the Year award and also his first Canadian Steer Wrestling title. Blaine Pederson also competed in Calf Roping and Team Roping but it was in Steer Wrestling that he excelled. As a steer wrestler, Blaine competed at the Canadian Finals Rodeo 15 times and the National Finals Rodeo five times. Blaine won four Canadian Steer Wrestling Championships, two Canadian High Point Championships, the Calgary Stampede $50,000 Title in 1988 and 1991, and twice was the NFR Steer Wrestling Average Winner. The highlight of his career came in 1994 when he captured the World Championship Steer Wrestling Title.

Known for his outstanding ability, sportsmanship, personality, and contributions to the betterment of rodeo, in 1988, Blaine Pederson was awarded the Calgary Stampede’s Guy Weadick Award. In 1988, he was awarded the prestigious C.P.R.A. Cowboy of the Year Award. Blaine Pederson continues to give back to the sport of rodeo as a role model through coaching and teaching young steer wrestlers in their pursuit of excellence.

Our over 7,000 square feet of exhibit space includes a multisport area with virtual baseball, basketball, football, hockey, and soccer; an adaptive sports area, including a 200 meter wheelchair challenge; a Treadwall climbing wall; the Orest Korbutt Theatre; the Hall of Fame Gallery; an art gallery displaying works by provincial artists, and much more. Our venue boasts a collection of over 17,000 artefacts of Alberta sports history and showcases many of these items in a number of displays. The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame also offers an education program, group activities, and a unique environment to rent for your birthday party, special event, corporate reception or meetings.

Brady Leman – Alpine Skiing Athlete

Calgary native Brady Leman, born October 16, 1986, is celebrated as one of Canada’s most successful ski cross athletes. Overcoming a broken leg at the 2010 Olympics and a near-podium finish in 2014, Brady achieved gold in men’s ski cross at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang.

With 6 World Cup victories and 32 podiums, he retired in 2023 after winning his final race on Canadian soil.

Beyond his athletic achievements, Brady actively supports future athletes through fundraising and leadership roles, including serving on the Alberta Alpine Ski Association Board. His induction honors his remarkable career and contributions to Canadian skiing.

Calgary-born Alex Gough made history by winning Canada’s first Olympic medals in luge—a bronze in women’s singles and a silver in the team relay—at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. Throughout her career, she amassed 6 World Championship medals and was a nine-time Canadian champion. Since retiring in 2018, she has served as President of Luge Canada, fostering the sport’s growth nationwide. Gough’s ground-breaking achievements have elevated Canadian luge on the world stage and inspired future generations of athletes.
