Weapons charges laid on three people in Cochrane

Cochrane RCMP Charge Three Adults with Numerous Weapons Offences
Cochrane, AB. – On Friday afternoon, December 6, 2019, members of Cochrane RCMP’s General Investigation Section located a suspicious vehicle with three occupants.  The officers observed a firearm in the vehicle and arrested the occupants.  As the investigation unfolded, several weapons were located and seized, including: a loaded shotgun, a loaded rifle, bear spray and brass knuckles.
Carlyle Holloway, 39 yrs, Zachary Sampson, 33 yrs, and Aldina Snow, 34 yrs, all from Morley, Alberta, have been charged with several offences including:
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (four counts),
  • Carrying a concealed weapon (three counts),
  • Careless storage of a firearm (two counts),
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (two counts), and
  • Tampering with a serial number (one count).
All three accused were held for a Judicial Interim Release hearing.  Holloway was remanded to appear in Cochrane Provincial Court on Tuesday, December 10th,  Sampson was released on a $2000 no deposit Recognizance to appear in Court on December 17th, and Snow was released on $3000 no deposit Recognizance to appear in Court on Tuesday, December 10th.

St. Paul RCMP arrest three suspects with stolen firearms and drugs

St. Paul, Alta- On January 2nd, 2020 around 2:45 AM St. Paul RCMP members were conducting patrols in the town of St. Paul near Lakeshore Drive.  A member located two vehicles one of which matched the description of a vehicle that had fled from police the night before.  The member attempted a traffic stop and both vehicles failed to stop.  Further patrols of the area located one of the vehicles which had gone off the road and into the ditch. The occupants from the vehicle had fled from the scene before members arrived. Police Dog Services (PDS) were called and a track was started. St. Paul RCMP, along with PDS, located two males and one female after an approximately 3 kilometre track.

Upon a search of the vehicle, St. Paul RCMP located and seized 240 grams of Methamphetamine and 4 firearms. Three of the firearms were determined to have been stolen, two from 2019 and one from 2015.

All three suspects were subsequently arrested, taken into custody to the St. Paul RCMP detachment, and charged.

Justin MOSES, 38 years old, of Saddle Lake First Nation, Alta was charged with the following:

-Resist/obstruct police officer.

-Careless use of a firearm (x4)

-Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (x4)

-Possession for the purpose of trafficking Schedule 1: Methamphetamine

-8 additional firearm related charges.

Darin MOSES, 39 years old, of Saddle Lake First Nation, Alta was charged with:

-Failure to comply with Undertaking (x7)

-Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

-Flight from police officer

-Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (x4)

-Careless use of a firearm (x4)

-Possession for the purpose of trafficking Schedule 1: Methamphetamine

-10 additional firearms related charges

Jamie GADWA, 34 years old, of Kehewin First Nation, Alta was charged with:

-Resist/obstruct police officer.

-Careless use of a firearm (x4)

-Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (x4)

-Possession for the purpose of trafficking Schedule 1: Methamphetamine

-Possession of a weapon obtained by crime (x2)

-5 additional firearms related charges

All three suspects were taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody. They will appear in St. Paul  Provincial Court January 9th, 2020.

Sgt. David Graham of the St. Paul RCMP said “thanks to the sharp eye of one of our members several firearms along with a large quantity of drugs are now off the streets.  Keeping our communities safe is our number one priority”.

Killam RCMP – officer involved shooting

Hardisty, Alta. – At 5:20 p.m. today, the Killam RCMP with the assistance of Provost and Wainwright RCMP and the Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit were attempting to apprehend a male suspect when a confrontation occurred that resulted in RCMP officers discharging their service weapons.

Prior to this, the RCMP were pursuing a suspect vehicle on Highway 13 near Hardisty.  The vehicle was believed to be the same vehicle involved in an earlier incident with the Killam RCMP. Several tire deflation devices were used in an attempt to stop the vehicle.  The vehicle went into the ditch and a male got out of the vehicle. The confrontation followed.

The adult male was treated on scene by EMS and transported to an Edmonton hospital in serious condition.  The RCMP members involved were not injured.   The male was the sole occupant of the truck.

The Director of Law Enforcement has been notified and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the officer involved shooting and the actions of police. The RCMP will continue to investigate the actions of the man and the events leading up to the confrontation with police.
