St. Albert RCMP pilot new program in schools

St. Albert, Alberta – The City of St. Albert RCMP Community Policing & Victim Services Unit have begun piloting a new education program for grade 6 youth in six area schools. The Safe in 6 program is a made in Alberta prevention and awareness education program that includes modules on drug resistance, healthy relationships and online safety. Safe in 6 has been successfully used by numerous Edmonton area schools for the past several years. The program was Initiated by the Edmonton Police Service in strategic partnership with the Canadian Centre for Child Protection.

The RCMP is committed to providing in-class positive police presence in schools with our School Resource and Community Resource Officers.  Our compliment of six fulltime constables, reservist and a unit supervisor have also endeavoured to present safety talks on bike rodeos, traffic enforcement, and wraparound participation in partnering with our collaborative community agencies in benefiting children and families of St. Albert.

While we pilot Safe in 6 in select classrooms, the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) program will continue to be offered in most schools. Parents and citizens can be confident that the St. Albert RCMP will be maintaining our presence in schools, and offering students the best in prevention and awareness education.

  • Safe in 6 is a 4-module program developed in Edmonton in 2014.
  • This program encourages, empowers and educates grade six students on healthy and safe choices while going through their teenage years.
  • Safe in 6 covers topics of drug and alcohol resistance, bullying/cyber-bully online

St. Albert RCMP Search Warrant Locates Stolen Identity Documents 

St. Albert, Alta. – On March 13, 2021, St. Albert RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) executed a Search Warrant at an apartment complex in the City of St. Albert. The search of the residence located hundreds of pieces of stolen identity documents, forged identification, forged cheques and stolen mail. There was evidence the individuals were making and distributing forged identification to be used in other frauds.

As a result of the investigation, both Twyla STEINHAUER (33 years old) and Corey PEERS (32 years old) of Edmonton, have been remanded into police custody and are set to appear in court on March 22, 2021 in St. Albert on the following charges:

  • Identity theft
  • Fraud
  • Possession of stolen property
  • Trafficking in identity documents
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of Methamphetamine, and
  • Failure to comply with release documents

St. Albert CRU has seen a significant increase in identity theft complaints recently. St. Albert CRU has completed three separate investigations that have resulted in the seizure of hundreds of forged and stolen identification documents. Many of the stolen identity documents that the suspects have used to make false identification based on, come from theft from motor vehicles which is called “car hopping” or “car shopping”.

To help combat this growing crime trend, the St. Albert RCMP urge citizens to follow the #9PM Routine and keep their motor vehicles locked.

St. Albert RCMP seek help to identify thief at London Drugs

St. Albert RCMP – Assist to identify

St. Albert, Alta – St. Albert RCMP are seeking the assistance of the public in identifying a male responsible for the theft of a Marshall Kilburn II speakers valued at $300 from the London Drugs in St. Albert.

On September 10, 2020, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the male suspect entered the store, selected the speakers, and left without paying for the speakers.

The male suspect is described as:

  • approximately 35 years of age
  • approximately 6’1″ tall and about 220 pounds
  • short dark hair
  • wearing black sweater, blue jeans and white addidas shoes
  • wearing a black mask and a long siver necklace
