Grey Cup coaches asked about St. Michael’s scandal at pre-game news conference
EDMONTON — The growing scandal at an all-boys private school in Toronto made its way to the Grey Cup this morning with the coaches of both teams asked about it at a pre-game news conference.
St. Michael’s College School has been rocked by allegations of assault and sexual assault by students, including violent hazing.
Six boys are facing charges in connection with an alleged sexual assault captured on video that police sources say involved members of a school sports team.
Calgary Stampeders coach Dave Dickenson said he and Ottawa Redblacks coach Rick Campbell were concerned at what had gone on, saying sports should be positive and inclusive.
Campbell declined comment, saying he did not want to downplay a serious issue but needed more information on what happened.
Since the scandal broke last week, a number of former students have come forward with allegations of “sexualized” hazing and the school has said recent incidents clearly indicate it has a problem.

Popular roller-coaster at West Edmonton Mall amusement park to be removed

Canada’s largest shopping centre says a popular roller-coaster at its amusement park is being removed after nearly 40 years in operation.
West Edmonton Mall’s vice-president of parks and attractions says in a statement that while the Mindbender will be missed, the mall is excited to announce it is working on new plans for the site.
The Mindbender was known as the world’s tallest and longest indoor, triple-loop roller-coaster.
In 1986, three people were killed on the roller-coaster, which forced the mall to shut it down for a year for safety modifications.
Galaxyland initially opened in 1983, but was known as Fantasyland until 1995.
The indoor amusement park partnered with Hasbro in 2022 and features attractions licensed from the franchise.
