Grande Prairie RCMP Continue to Investigate the Disappearance of Jody Hockett
This week will mark the tenth anniversary of the disappearance of Jody Hockett. Jody was last seen entering a white vehicle outside of the York Hotel in Grande Prairie on February 22, 2009.
She is described as:
- Caucasian
- Dyed strawberry blonde hair
- blue eyes
- 5’5
- Wearing jeans
- tank top
- black zip-up sweatshirt with hood
- High heeled shoes with fur on them
Jody was 33 years old at the time of her disappearance and may also be known by the names “Jody Smith”, “Jodi” or “Jessie”.

Grande Prairie RCMP – Charges laid in historical sex crimes investigation
Grande Prairie, Alta. – RCMP have laid charges against a 36-year-old man following an investigation into allegations of sexual assaults that occurred between 2016 to late 2020.
In Dec. 2020, RCMP received reports of alleged sexual offences that had taken place between 2016 and 2020. The Grande Prairie RCMP Special Investigations Unit initiated an investigation into the allegations.
All of the offences in this investigation are alleged to have taken place between 2016 and 2020 and involve female victims who were known to the accused.
On Jan. 12, 2021, investigators arrested Philip Woodrow (36) of Grande Prairie, Alberta. He faces charges of Sexual Assault (x2) and Sexual Interference (x2). Woodrow has been released on an undertaking with conditions and is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on Feb. 24, 2021.
The RCMP are continuing their investigation into this incident and are asking the public to come forward with any similar type incidents in the Grande Prairie area. On Dec. 8, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a 28-year-old man, who died the same day following an incident involving Grande Prairie RCMP.
At about 8:20 p.m., members of the Grande Prairie RCMP responded to a report of a domestic dispute near the Petro-Canada service station at 100 Street and 132 Avenue. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man and a confrontation occurred, during which two officers discharged their service firearms. The man sustained gunshot wounds and died at the scene.
Following the incident, investigators recovered a non-police firearm, along with spent shell casings matching that firearm.

ASIRT’s investigation will examine the actions of police during this incident, while the RCMP will maintain conduct of the investigation into the man and his conduct. As ASIRT’s investigation is underway, no further information will be released.
ASIRT’s mandate is to effectively, independently and objectively investigate incidents involving Alberta’s police that have resulted in serious injury or death to any person, as well as serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct.

Officer involved shooting in Grande Prairie, Alta.

Grande Prairie, Alta. – On Dec. 8, 2020, at approximately 8:15 p.m., Grande Prairie RCMP received a complaint of a disturbance in the area of 100 Street and 132 Avenue.
Grande Prairie RCMP members attended the location and an altercation occurred between the officers and a male suspect. During the altercation, events led to the officers discharging their service weapons. The suspect sustained life threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
No officers or other civilians were injured in this incident.
The Director of Law Enforcement has been notified and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the officer involved shooting and the actions of police. The RCMP will continue to investigate the events leading up to the altercation with police.
The Alberta RCMP will not be commenting further on this incident. All media inquiries about this incident should now be directed to ASIRT at 780-641-9099.
