Local Entertainment Current Swell with Close Talker Tuesday night at Bo’s Published 3 months ago on 3 months ago By Lloyd Lewis Two superb Western Canadian bands roll through Red Deer together on Tuesday. Current Swell (from Victoria) and Close Talker (from Saskatoon) hit the stage Tuesday night at Bo’s Bar and Grill. Scott Stanton and Dave Lang from Current Swell dropped by a few months back and performed an acoustic version of “It Ain’t Right”. If you’re already a fan of Current Swell then you’ve been waiting for them to come through town again for a long time. Here’s a couple of versions of “It Ain’t Right” from their latest album “When to Talk and When to Listen” – one acoustic and the other the official video for the song. Also on the bill is Close Talker, and indie rock trio from Saskatoon, Canada. Close Talker is a band born and raised in the Canadian prairies, made up of childhood friends Will Quiring, Matthew Kopperud, and Christopher Morien. Since becoming a trio in the summer of 2015, the band has toured extensively and created a sound that is drawing crowds around the world. You can hear both bands this Tuesday night at Bo’s Bar and Grill. This is one show that’s not to be missed! Read more from Todayville. Not long ago the future of the home was very much in doubt. But interested parties came together with a plan. Not only did they save the home… they transformed it into a unique public building which will play a significant role for decades to come. The building is now called The Wadey Centre. The model of collaboration behind this successful project caught the attention of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association. Hoping to spur other towns to consider similar projects, the AUMA awarded Blackfalds with the prestigious Municipal Sustainability in Action Award just a few months after the Wadey Centre opened. Click to see the story behind the Wadey Centre Project and enjoy a few glimpses of the 101 year-old heritage home which is enjoying new life as a Visitor Information Centre, and offices for the Blackfalds Chamber of Commerce and the Blackfalds Historical Society. <►>Shelley Winters with her stunt double... and her Stand In from Blackfalds Click here for more information about the Wadey Centre and all things Blackfalds. This more Event Details On International Mother Language Day, February 21st, the UN's Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and UN agencies, participate in events that promote linguistic and cultural diversity. This day was created to support people who lost their lives trying to protect their mother language. As many as half of the world's 7,000 languages are expected to be extinct by the end of this century; it is estimated that one language dies out every 14 days. The aim of CARE is to celebrate the many languages that are spoken in Red Deer and to encourage people of all ages to learn a new language. To commemorate this day, Central Alberta Refugee Effort is hosting an International Mother Language Day Event at the Collicutt Centre, 3031 – 30 Avenue, Red Deer on February 24th from 11am – 2pm. Free Admission. Families are invited to attend and learn words in other languages; play fun word games; discover the many cultures in Red Deer, and win prizes! We will have 16 booths representing many different languages and cultures, hosted by CARE volunteers from many different countries. Participants will be able to play interactive games, answer trivia questions, test their memory and linguistic skills, and above all be introduced to the joy of learning languages in a fun way.
