We, at The City of Red Deer, value the safety of our citizens, staff and visitors as our number one priority. We know there is a lot of information being shared about the Coronavirus (COVID-19), and while there no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Red Deer right now, we are preparing and planning for how we will address it if, and when, there are cases that potentially impact the health and wellness of our citizens and customers.
Right now, it is business as usual in our public facing facilities. Recreation and culture facilities remain open. Our transit buses are still running. We have a team of people working to ensure the continued safety and wellness of customers in these facilities, and we will continue to take direction from the Public Health Agency of Canada and Alberta Health on this issue.
While it is business as usual, we are taking some steps to address the growing issue. These steps include things like the placement of additional hand sanitizers throughout all City of Red Deer facilities, and making adjustments to janitorial standards, based on the direction of the Public Health Agency of Canada.
We know customers have questions. We are doing what we can, and looking to our partners in health for their guidance. In addition to the measures being taken by The City, we encourage you to protect yourself and others against the spread of COVID-19 by:
- use good hygiene practices, such as frequent handwashing
- cover coughs and sneezes
- avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
- stay at home and away from others if you are feeling ill
- contact your primary health provider or Health Link 811 if you have questions or concerns about your health
Please reach out to us if you have questions. We will do our very best to provide you with information or point you in the right direction. For more information on how to protect yourself, please visit www.alberta.ca/COVID19
